My comfort food is congee, juk in Chinese. Congee is basically rice porridge and you can make it with any ingredient you like. Growing up I've always ate congee for breakfast and fills you up until lunch. But now I don't have the time to make congee for breakfast. When I do make congee, I will make it for lunch and have extras for breakfast the next day. Congee can be eaten for lunch and dinner not necessary for breakfast.
Congee can be serve in many ways and with different ingredients. When I make it myself, I usually just make it plain because its simple and fast. But my favorite congee is called pei dan sau yuk juk in Chinese. Basically, the ingredients are pork, preserved duck eggs, and top with green scallions. Like this picture below (pictures credit to its rightful owner).

You can google "preserved duck egg congee with pork" to get more pictures. Also the best part of eating congee you get to eat it with this fried dough. Basically, its dough that are deep fried and they are the best. They are called fried fritters that look like this.

You just dip these into your congee then bite it. It's so crunchy and yummy. Mhmm, now I'm craving for this and congee. But anyways, yes Congee or Juk its my comfort food. I love eating congee and especially the one with preserved duck eggs. The preserved duck eggs and the pork adds flavors into the congee and it tastes really good. When ever I eat it, it always hits the spot. There are of course many types of congee, but the preserved eggs are my favorite! You can find the fired fritters in your local Asian market as well as the eggs. You can also find the congee and the fritters fresh at your local Authentic Chinese restaurants.
Well this is it and I'll see you all soon in my next post! :)
Yours Truly,
